Team LOVE: No Giving Up

Love is the one beautiful thing that makes life worthwhile, whether it be for a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend, a lover and even an enemy. It may be felt more as the emotion, the feeling, but it is more of the action. The endeavor to please, to comfort, to serve and to enjoy the other person. Knowing their joy is your pleasure, and their comfort, your peace.

We stumble upon times though, when the people we love seem to give us reason not to love them anymore, even if temporarily. They get on our nerves and just rub us the wrong way, even making us feel angry, resentful, bitter and all other kinds of nasty emotions.

It is then that the pride in us will say, 'you stepped the wrong foot baby, let me teach you a lesson" Or we could say our natural defense mechanisms just build walls around us to protect us from these people!
Whatever the reaction, if it won't build the relationship, it better be rethought out! Unless the relationship ain't worth keeping, ofcourse. But even if it isn't worth keeping, your part in the story should end clean and peacefully, so that when your paths cross in future, you will have no shame.

But most of our relationships are precious to us and we wouldn't want to just lose them anyhow, so, what happens when the people we love shoot us in the foot? Well, that depends on so much, but generally we have to decide on whether we want peace or war.
Peace calls for humility, proper communication(which goes a long long way in restoring our relationships), forgiveness, and returning good when we've received evil.
War, on the other hand, allows pride to sit on the throne of our hearts and breeds anger bitterness, rage, hatred and all things nasty. Getting out of that sticky and yucky mess calls for the grace of God.

It is so much easier(though it may look harder), to (by the grace of God) return good for evil before going through all the nasty emotions, than it is to restore peace after so much unnecessary pain has been added to the wound by our sinful words and actions.

It takes courage to be kind, to love and to show mercy in return for evil. It is the royal way though, so let's walk in it.

Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good"
